Medical Interpreting

Class Description:  Medical interpreters are in great demand both in-person and remotely by video or phone. Interpreters can elect to work for a hospital, school, or state agency, or as contractors with many agencies throughout the country. They can also elect to work remotely from home where they can work independently and make their own hours.

Open to all languages, this 60-hour program provides a working knowledge of medical interpreting, including standards of practice, ethics, HIPAA regulations, cultural competency, and medical terminology/vocabulary.

The course provides intense practice via oral role plays on a variety of medical topics. The student will also be introduced to VRI (video remote interpreting) and OPI (Over the Phone Interpreting).

Offered in collaboration with TransFluenci EDU, this course is designed for those preparing for entry-level careers as medical interpreters as well as for working interpreters preparing for the National Board Certificate exam. 

Students must be fully bilingual and must be fluent in English and one other language.

Students must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.

The language assessment coordinator will reach out to you by phone prior to the start of class for an assessment in the language you designated when you registered. You must pass the language assessment, to meet program requirements. You will also be provided with the class book order information, (book price $39.95) is not included in the class price.

This program meets the National Board for Medical Interpreter Certification training requirement and prepares you to pass the national certification exam. Upon completion of this course, students may elect to apply for national certification.

Program Description:

Start your path in Bristol's Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration (HVAC/R) and Heat Pump Training Program. HVAC/R and Heat Pump is a growing field with opportunities in clean energy and skilled trades.

This Free 17-week hybrid HVAC training program combines hands-on learning with real HVAC tools and equipment, interactive simulations, lectures, and group discussions to build both technical skills and industry knowledge.

This training prepares participants for immediate employment with a local HVAC company gaining valuable paid on the job training. 

Program Highlights:

  • 275 Hours of Industry Training (Hybrid Schedule)
  • Face to Face: Tues. through Thurs., from 3:30 PM to 7:30 PM
  • Face to Face: Sat., from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM
  • Online work will vary each week
    • Receive up to $1,000 gift card stipend when milestones are achieved

Program Prerequisites:

  • 18 Years of age or older 
  • A resident of Massachusetts
  • Hold a United States issued high school diploma or high school equivalency (GED or HiSET)
  • Hold a MA issued valid driver's license or MA issued Photo ID
  • Authorized to work in the US
  • Complete and pass a CORI/SORI background check
  • Ability to lift over 20 lbs.
  • Fully committed to completing all classes
  • Be ready to work directly after program completion

This program is developed through a partnership between Bristol Community College, Diman Vocational Technical High School, area HVAC companies and funded by Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC).

GWO Enhanced First Aid Refresher

The EFA-R Training Standard shall enable participants to support and care for others working in the industry by possessing the knowledge, skills, and ability of enhanced first aid. The aim of this EFA-R module is to refresh current EFA skills through theoretical and practical training so that participants can administer safe and effective enhanced first aid in the wind industry.
